xEV High-Voltage Safety Checklist

A generic pre-work checklist for working on or near hybrid and electric vehicle high-voltage systems. Every step links ASE's xEV safety standard or the OSHA rule it comes from.

Reference only. Follow the vehicle manufacturer's service information, your employer's safety program and OSHA rules. Not a substitute for high-voltage training. Never work on high-voltage systems you aren't trained and authorized to service.

These steps are generic. ASE's standard says the technician shall refer to the vehicle manufacturer's (OEM) repair and de-energizing procedures before proceeding. Use this list alongside them, not instead of them.

Who should do this work

ASE's Level ONE (electrically aware person) is for anyone who may encounter an EV at work, for tasks not related to high-voltage systems. Level TWO (high-voltage vehicle technician) covers isolating and verifying the high-voltage system, securing it against activation, and general work on de-energized high-voltage systems (ASE: xEV Safety Certifications, Level ONE standard).
