FDA medical device recall quick-check

Look up FDA medical device recall records by product name, recalling firm, recall number (for example Z-0151-2027) or FDA product code (for example FRN). Don't know the code? Find it with the FDA device classification lookup. Results come from FDA's public openFDA data and link to each recall's record in FDA's database.

Reference only. Data from FDA; it may lag FDA's own database, and recent recalls may not be classified yet. Follow your facility's recall management process and the manufacturer's notices. A search with no match does not mean a device has never been recalled. openFDA says: “Do not rely on openFDA to make decisions regarding medical care. While we make every effort to ensure that data is accurate, you should assume all results are unvalidated.”

How it works

Your search goes to our server, which asks openFDA's device recall endpoint for the 10 most recent matching records, then looks up each recall number in openFDA's device enforcement data for the recall class. Answers are cached for up to 24 hours so we stay well inside openFDA's public rate limits; each result shows openFDA's own “last updated” date. We don't store what you search.

openFDA describes the class as a “Numerical designation (I, II, or III) that is assigned by FDA to a particular product recall that indicates the relative degree of health hazard.” When a record has no class yet, open the FDA record for its current status.
